How children draw the green Unifant

After reading the story aloud, I asked children to draw what they had heard. These sheets are the result. None of the children had seen the illustrations from the book before they started.

What is striking: the pictures in their heads are right. There are trees with yellow pieces of cheese on the branches, a lake whose water bulges above its banks, a stalk running off the top of the page, and again and again a green creature standing on a single leg. The children were between three and six years old.

To me these sheets are the best proof that the story works. A story works when it keeps going inside someone's head.
